THREE 'O' EIGHT FISHING LTD
Fishing charter out of Kawhia, North Island, New Zealand
Season update (winter 2013):
At the time of writing this we are now into July. Crazy
Horse is in Nelson on the hard and it is going through
its four yearly survey. Whole nine yards, props and
rudder shafts out and crack tested, all through hull
fittings, valves, fire pumps, on and on and on. Yes
it is the big one but has to be done for its survey
requirements. Will be good to get it back in the water.
Looking back the rest of the spring Snapper spawn was
very good, the weather was great leading up to Christmas
and we had some great days with our guests out on the
water. The fish were in great condition and many double
figure fish were bought onto the boat. Into the Autumn
we had some great Snapper trips and the fishing was
great right through till June and I think this may have
been due to the water temp. Was still very warm in fact
only a month ago 12th June it was still 17.9 which was
very high for that time of the year. There were also
a few free trips given away due to one of our many promotions
which we run when fishing with us on Crazy Horse. Catch
a fish over 20 lbs and you get your day free. Also every
trip we do some one wins the Crazy Horse T shirt, amazing
how many you see being worn around the country. All
Into the 2013 we had a continued good run of snapper
charters and they just kept coming onto the boat and
the spawn seemed to go on well into the new year. The
Blue water arrived towards the end of December and we
looked forward to another game season on the West Coast.
We had a number of game charters booked so it was all
on during those days. We had three people come out with
us and each trip we did they caught there first marlin.
They were over the moon with the excitement of the day
and have rebooked for next season. There were very few
days out on the water where we did not have fish in
the gear. One day we had 10 marlin over the space of
about two hours swimming around the boat meat balling
fish. I could of tagged a number of them as they were
so close to us. The people we had fishing with us were
truly amazed at how good these fish really are when
they are glowing purple and green. A truly amazing site.
It was a great season and I have never seen so many
fish while out on the water. Just so much bait and food
Last month on 7th June Paul Neil and I went out to the
trench to target Broadbill Swordfish. On the first deep
drop we hooked up and three and a quarter hours later
we boated out first sword for the boat and a first for
me on the rod. It went 189 kgs on the scales at Kawhia
the next morning. That was one trip I will never forget
but we will catch more of the beasts some time soon.
YOU CAN BANK ON IT!!
What now. Will I take the boat to West Port again to
have another season on the Blue Fin Tuna ???? Watch
this space. Will Update you soon.
