Crazy Horse kicks its way into the 2010 game fishing season

Justin Green, Carl Burgess and I headed for the Mokau Trench on the 8th of January in the hope of catching our first marlin for the season. After the two hour run out at 20knts we had the lures in the water. It all looked good with the color a good blue and the temp up over the 20 dec mark. No action for the first few hours, then late in the afternoon we had a good bite. Took a little purple sea tail lure which I run of the short corner of the boat. We did not see the bite but it took 400 mts out in one run. Once Carl had got back 200 mts the fish went deep under the boat. At this stage I thought we had a yellow fin on. Had it in the boat after 35 mins and it turned out to be a Big Eye Tuna. First for the boat and a first caught by a recreational angler out of Kawhia Ragland and New Plymouth. On the 18th we went back to the same place with the same crew plus Debbie Donald and John Hammond for an over night trip. We hooked up to a marlin at 5.00 in the after noon and John had to the boat in good nick, tag in and away it went. First fish for John well done for not taking it. Deb hooked up at 8.45 and she to let hers go after a 30 minute battle. Number 15 for her. What a first day.

Lures back in the water at 5.00am the following morning, hooked up again couple of hours later, Justin gave it heaps but the hook pulled 50 mts from the boat. We hooked up again not 10 mins later and this time he had it to the boat not long later. It was tail rapped and in poor shape so we boated it. Weighed out at 125.6 kgs. Number 4 for Justin. We got on to another fish a few hours later and Birdy cranked it in to the boat within 10 minutes. Was green as and lit up like a light bulb. Justin had the trace but the fish went mental and the 400 lb trace snapped at the hook. That fish lived to fight another day.

One hell of a trip and a great start to the game fishing season.

All species of fish abound in the area at certain times of the year from huge spawning Snapper, xos Kingfish, massive Bass and world record Striped Marlin. Crazy Horse is well placed to give you the ultimate fishing or any other adventure you wish to put together.
