Fishing charter out of Kawhia, North Island, New Zealand

Season update (2014):

At the start of the New Year things looked as if we were in for a real good game fishing season. Water colour was great as was the water temps. But then we had a massive change in the weather patterns. We started to get these days of south westerly's wind patterns which just seemed to cool the water down and stopped the bait fish from coming down from the north. They went on through the whole season.

I think we had our first shot at a marlin on or around about the 6th of January which is about normal for us but seem to remember the day we had it on it was very hard to stand up let alone fight the fish as it was blowing about 25 to 30 knots. Anyway to cut a long story short it got off as did the next five we got on. This took me through to about the start of March. From then on in we did not see another fish and I was not the only one. I gave up and took the boat to the Three Kings.

The first trip we did there we had five lures in the water for not more than five minutes or so and we had a pack attack of four marlin all trying to grab a lure. Only one hooked up but line parted after about ten minutes into the fight. I did three, three day trips up there based from the Hokianga. What a place and what great fishing from the desert which we had just come from. We ended up tagging five fish and keeping one. We lost count of the bites and the number of fish we had in the gear.

This game season I intend to take the boat north from mid February and fish up there for the season.

The boat has been down in Nelson getting a real make over. Two new engines, new paint and many other things - too many to mention. Will be just about a new boat so am looking forward to doing some serious fishing over the coming months.

It has arrived and from what I have heard from around about the big spawning West Coast Sapper have arrived. Still out at around the 50 meter mark but well within range of Crazy Horse. So lets hope we have a good spring weather pattern so as you can test yourselves out on these big boys. Give me a ring for a day out on Crazy Horse. We have some great boat competition and we will give you a day you will not forget or regret.
