Gannet Island lies twelve miles to the west of Kawhia Harbour. Most times of the year the water is crystal clear with water visibilty up to twenty metres or more. Many divers visit the island in their hunt for the huge crayfish which live in the holes and crevices of the vertical north facing wall of the island. X. O. S . Kingfish abound in the clear waters during the summer months. " Three 'O' Eight" Fishing and Crazy Horse are able to take dive parties to the island or any other parts of the rugged west coast line for some great diving adventures.
